## Description
ACDM (Automated crack detection and measurement) is a MATLAB software for the automated measurement of cracks in experiments instrumented with digital image correlation (DIC). The software allows the automatic detection of crack locations and the measurement of crack kinematics. The input data are DIC results of multiple measuring stages generated with [VIC-3D](https://www.correlatedsolutions.com/vic-3d/) or [VIC-2D](https://www.correlatedsolutions.com/vic-2d/) from Correlated Solution or other DIC software with suitable output.

ACDM (Automated crack detection and measurement) is an open-source MATLAB software for the automated measurement of cracks in experiments instrumented with digital image correlation (DIC). ACDM allows for the automatic detection of surface cracks and the measurement of crack kinematics (crack widths and slips). The input data are DIC results of multiple measuring stages generated with the commercial software [VIC-3D](https://www.correlatedsolutions.com/vic-3d/) or [VIC-2D](https://www.correlatedsolutions.com/vic-2d/) from Correlated Solution®. Data from other DIC software must be converted to the VIC output format (see the [test data](https://gitlab.ethz.ch/ibk-kfm-public/acdm/-/tree/master/test/)).

ACDM relies on the DIC displacement measurements and strain calculations of instrumented specimen surfaces. Cracks as thinned lines that are connected to skeletons are extracted at principal strain peaks. Full crack kinematics (crack opening and sliding) for several measuring stages are calculated at every crack location using the local crack inclination and the crack face displacements.
